Butch Ward

A journalist for 27 years at The Philadelphia Inquirer and the Baltimore News-American, Mr. Ward served stints as managing editor at both newspapers. Before joining Poynter, he spent three years being covered by journalists as spokesperson for Independence Blue Cross, the largest health insurer in Southeastern Pennsylvania. He leads seminars in leadership, editing and writing, and has taught for the Committee of Concerned Journalists and for APME NewsTrain. During the 2008 Presidential campaign, Mr. Ward helped journalists explore more effective ways to cover national elections for their local audiences. He also has traveled to South Africa to teach leadership and narrative writing to journalists there.
