"8 Steps to Profitable New Products" is part of API West, a full week of programming that includes "Beyond the Newsroom," "New Revenue Models That Work!" "Maximizing Sales Force Effectiveness" and "The Next Generation of Media Managers." Join us in California Sept. 13-17!

Media companies are facing certain change, but at the same most companies are risk averse. This program will help you identify how your organization can use the new product development process to build innovation and gain a competitive advantage in the marketplace.

Whether yours is a print product or digital site, the challenge is to develop new products that will enhance customer experience. In print, that may be niche publications, events, new customer service processes or new sales initiatives … and overarching all is the challenge to commercialize new digital technology. In the digital space, new sites, new platforms, and new revenue models are the promise of future success.

The focus of this one-day program is to build an 8-step process for linking your company’s strategy to new product design, development and commercialization. The program will demonstrate approaches to establish an innovation mind-set in an organization, manage and maintain a portfolio of innovations over time, and analyze the individual project throughout the innovation process. Approaches are presented for targeting markets and for developing effective marketing plans for new products.

API President Drew Davis, author of “Rx for New Product Success,”  will lead participants through an examination of:

• The eight steps for successful new product development
• Disruptive innovation following the principles of API’s Newspaper Next project
• Organization for new product management
• Decision-making for speed-to-market for new products
• Case studies on new products in media companies.

Key Benefits
